Packages

As we have already mentioned, when entering into a home insurance contract you can choose between the following insurance packages:

All-risk – covers damage caused by a sudden and unforeseen event, which means that everything is covered besides the aspects previously excluded by the insurance company.

Main risks – covers damage caused by a fire, natural disaster, storm, pipeline leakage, vandalism or robbery.

Minimum risk – covers damage caused by a fire or natural disaster (storm).

When entering into a home insurance contract, we suggest you consider purchasing all-risk insurance, which has the most extensive cover, in order to guarantee the best protection in the case of an accident. Compare the costs and the terms and conditions on our website www.iizi.ee

Civil Liability Insurance

The purpose of civil liability insurance is to compensate damage inflicted on a third party or victim. This includes damage inflicted on persons or their property that leaves the insured person (meaning you) responsible for compensating their neighbour(s).

The most common accidents in apartment buildings are related to water damage. For instance a burst water pipe can flood your residence, and sadly your neighbours also often suffer. In addition to the chaotic state of your own home you also have to worry about the well-being of your neighbours and the expense involved. Water damage can ruin your interior, wardrobes, other furniture and home appliances. Moreover, several neighbouring apartments may be damaged at once. For example, if you live on the top floor of a five-storey building, the water damage may extend to the bottom floor.

Home insurance paired with civil liability insurance help in the aforementioned situation. The insurance helps you fix both your apartment and those of your neighbours. You only have to pay the excess.

Property-related damage covered by home insurance can happen outside of the home as well. Let's say your children are riding a bicycle in front of the building and accidentally scratch a nearby parked car or kick a ball through a neighbour's window while playing. The insurance also covers damage caused by your pets to a third party.

Need for Insurance

Home insurance is of assistance in the case of a range of incidents, such as water damage, fire, burglary and damage done to contents. Your home insurance also helps you if an accident does damage to your neighbours as well.

We also recommend that you insure your country house or cottage. No matter how careful you are, accidents can occur in any house, no matter how much time people spend there.

If the residence is used on a temporary basis, it is important to make sure nothing damaging happens on an unattended property. When you leave, make sure you turn the power off, empty the water pipes and exclude all kinds of potentially damaging factors that can be prevented (water pipes freezing and breaking, short circuits in power cables, natural disasters – storms, rain, thunder etc.).

Cost

There are various factors that affect the amount of an insurance premium. Whether or not it is a permanent residence, how the building was constructed, the building materials used, the year of construction and renovation, the area of the building and its condition are all equally important. Insurance companies make very different offers on home insurance.

Additional Risks

You can also extend home insurance to contents, which includes smart devices, furniture, household appliances, art, jewellery, sports equipment and more. This means you can also cover your smart phone and tablet with home insurance. Contents can also be covered separately, not necessarily as part of home insurance. This can be handy if you live in a rented apartment and consider your belongings there valuable.
