How can we ensure that Career Education truly liberates students rather than just preparing them for social adaptation? Drawing on empirical research from Norwegian lower secondary schools, this keynote highlights a fundamental didactic tension in Career Education: the intention to achieve emancipation (freeing students from fixed perceptions) versus the risk of reducing the student's role to mere adaptation (social adjustment). To contribute to the critical need for developing didactics, this presentation introduces analytical models developed in collaboration with practitioners. Join us to explore how we can enhance reflexivity on emancipatory activities, promoting critical thinking, strengthening collective learning, expanding learning contexts (like school and work), and exploring the complex connections between identity, society, and career choices.
