Practical Information
Arrival
By plane - Arlanda airport
You can take a 20-minute train to Uppsala from the train station at Sky City at Arlanda airport. Note that there are several train companies operating the route Arlanda – Uppsala so make sure you step on the correct train as tickets are not interchangeable. Tickets can be purchased in the ticket desk, ticket kiosks and the SJ web or UL app (also for local public transport within Uppsala).
Note! Do not take Arlanda Express as this train only goes to Stockholm (wrong direction).
Buses also depart from terminal 4 and tickets can be purchased by card on the bus. The bus takes approximately 40 minutes.
Taxi takes around 30 minutes and we recommend Uppsala Taxi (book online). Prises are fixed at 675 SEK (1-4 people). Taxis can also be ordered by phone at +46 18 100 000
By train
The train station is located in the middle of the city centre with walking distance to most hotels.
Venues
Most locations used during the conference are within a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.
Conference venues
The main venue of the conference will be the Main University Building of Uppsala University (map). All plenary sessions, oral presentations, workshops and idea generating sessions will take place here.
The closest bus stop for access to the Main University Building is called “Slottsbacken”. Bus lines 1, 2, 7 and 11 stop here. For tickets and information about local transport download the UL app.
The venue for poster sessions and the mingle dinner held on October 8 is Saluhallen, second floor (map). There is a five minute walk to Saluhallen from the Main University Building.
Accessibility
All venues are equipped with ramps and elevators and all rooms for sessions are wheel chair accessible. Speakers for oral presentations are requested to use microphones at all times.
Wardrobe
The wardrobe in the Main University Building will be open on October 8 and October 10.
Social events
In evening of October 9 there are two parallel social events taking place (see program for details).
- Visit the new Historical Castle Museum which has been co-developped with academics and students at Uppsala University (map)
- Board game night hosted by The Centre for Environment and Development Studies (map).
There are also two guided tours on October 10:
- Wake up in Uppsala! Try out the local playgrounds! We meet at the corner of Svartbäcksgatan & Klostergatan (map)
- Guided tour of the City of Uppsala and visit to the university museum Gustavianum.
Participants are requested to indicate their interest in the social events by bookmarking them in the programme.
Programme and bookmarking of sessions
The programme is available on the conference website. If you also log into the Conference Attendee Area you can bookmark sessions of interest and create your own personal schedule. For the social events on October 9 and 10 organisers ask that you indicate your interest in joining by bookmarking the event in order to know how many participants to expect (visit to the castle, the game night, morning guided tour and after closing guiding tour)
You can also access the list of participants in the Attendee Area.
Sustainable events
ENLIGHT has adopted recommendations for sustainable events which we have tried to meet as far as possible. Therefore, most of the meals offered are either completely vegetarian or vegan. The recommendations also serve to highlight where it is currently not possible for us as organisers to make more sustainable choices which will also be part of the feedback to our own organisations for future events.
Bring your own water bottle. Tap water is safe to drink.
Dress code
The Teaching & Learning Conference has not adopted any official policy on dress code.
To do in Uppsala
If you happen to find yourself with some extra time on your hands the website Destination Uppsala is recommended. There you will find information on points of interest and restaurant guides.
There is also the app “Uppsala konst och kulturarv” (website in Swedish with links to download the app for Iphone/Android in the bottom) that contains guided virtual tours across the city on several themes.
Quite work space – Seminar Room 4
During the conference there is a dedicated room where you can sit and catch up on e-mails or do other tasks that may require a calm space.
Miscellaneous info
- The weather is notoriously unstable in October. We are expecting 5-12 degrees with some showers. Bringing an umbrella is recommended.
- Payment is easiest with credit cards, which are accepted everywhere. Stores accepting cash are becoming increasingly rare.
- Electricity. Sweden uses sockets of type C and F, 230 V.
