ADDRESS BY THE PROGRAMME MANAGER
On 8 February 2018, we will organise the Estonian Supply Chain Management Association's PROLOG II International Business Conference. The aim of the conference is to highlight the changes taking place in the world and to offer new ideas for adapting to change.
At the last conference, we were the first to bring Hyperloop One Vice President Alan James to Estonia, where he unveiled the possibility of hyperloop traffic between Tallinn and Helsinki. Alan James has now been to Estonia five times and the business community is embracing the hyperloop as a natural future alternative for connecting the two cities.
In putting together the programme for the PROLOG II conference, we also thought about the top managers and professionals in Estonian companies who need to cope with a fast-changing world and learn how to use new trends to make their businesses successful. The conference, under the subtitle "The Changing Business Environment", will bring together speakers from international and Estonian companies to talk about changes in technologies, people's attitudes and business models. I hope that by sharing their experiences, the competitiveness of all of us, and ultimately Estonian businesses and the Estonian economy as a whole, will be enhanced.

Tõnis Hintsov, Chairman of the PROLOG Board, and Peep Tomingas, CEO of PROLOG
Tõnis Hintsov has worked as a logistics service provider in senior positions at Schenker, Kaubaekspress and Trans World Shipping.
He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Transport at Tallinn University of Technology and is a founding member of the Estonian Supply Chain Management Association PROLOG and since 2011 also the Chairman of the PROLOG Board. Tõnis's main areas of expertise are logistics management, transport and distribution logistics, process development, logistics outsourcing, activity-based costing in logistics and transport information systems.
Peep Tomingas started his supply chain management career in 1997 as logistics manager at Ericsson Eesti AS. From 2002 until August 2015, he worked for ABB as Supply Chain Manager for the Baltics.
Peep is currently a private entrepreneur consulting companies on supply chain management. Peep is also CEO of PROLOG, the Estonian Supply Chain Management Association. Peeb's main areas of expertise are supply chain management, strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
Last year, amendments to the Road Traffic Act allowed self-driving vehicles on roads in Estonia. But this was just the beginning of Estonia's vision to be a test-bed for technological innovations in society and business models. Marten Kaevats, Digital Innovation and IT Advisor to the Prime Minister at the State Chancellery, is developing Estonia's technological vision. In his presentations, he has said that Estonia wants to be the first country in the world without any (paper) documents. However, integrating technological developments into our daily lives requires regulation. At PROLOG's Business Conference, he will look at what needs to be regulated to realise the vision. He will raise questions that will concern every company willing to keep pace with technological developments - if robots take over more and more human jobs, who will pay the taxes, or what could be the tax philosophy of the future, what will the legal space look like, or whether robots (or Cratas, as they are known in Estonia) will also be responsible or will someone still be the owner, in short: what could the "Cratas Act" in preparation look like. Of course, Marten Kaevats cannot miss one of his favourite topics in his presentation - self-driving vehicles and their future in Estonia.
Marten Kaevats is IT Advisor to the Prime Minister and Digital Innovation Advisor to the Prime Minister of the State Chancellery. Marten studies the impact of different scalable technologies on the spatial behaviour of people and communities and believes that the third (or fourth) industrial revolution and the hyperlocal life model will create major changes in people's spatial and social behaviour in the near future.
He sees a major change in mobility through self-driving vehicles as one technological variable. Marten Kaevats is an active member of a number of civil society organisations, having, among other things, chaired the working group that won second prize in the War of Independence Victory Monument competition, helped found the New World Society in 2007, and contributed to the creation of Community Tools, a free online community platform launched in 2008.
at the conference, Marten will talk about how to turn visions into reality and what Estonia will look like in 2030.
We have heard a lot about the different lobby groups. There is lobbying among each other to use regulation to push through technologies that benefit themselves or to keep competitors' technologies out. Regulators have a big responsibility, they can make or break innovation. Urlich Speer, an industry expert, will talk about the experience of the German car industry: why Volkswagen ended up falsifying emission figures, how the ban on combustion engines will affect the development of electric cars, etc. What can Estonia learn from this experience?
Urlich Speer is a senior executive with global sales experience, having worked in the engineering and mechatronics industries.
He has worked in the supply chain, both in manufacturing and on the supplier side. In his current role he focuses on finding industrial solutions to meet stringent environmental requirements. Urlich holds a PhD in engineering.
Just a few years ago, the Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel seemed like a pipe dream. Kaarel Kose has been with this utopian idea from the beginning and has seen it become more and more real. Now, an international working group on the Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel has come up with the first studies showing that the utopia can become a reality. At the conference, Kaarel will present what transport solutions could be used in the tunnel. He will unveil the numbers of passengers and goods that could be transported in the tunnel, where the most suitable route for the tunnel is, and how much it will cost to build. Finally, he will answer the question of how it will all pay off. We also hear what's next for the tunnel project.
Robert Mellin, Head of Customer Relations for Ericsson's Internet of Things, Transport and Logistics units, will tell an impressive story at the conference. After all, Ericsson's supply chain is a role model for companies around the world. But even in this supply chain, they found a way to save another 42% of costs in 6 years. The key was better planning through digitalisation. Robert Mellin was the chief architect of these savings, and in his presentation he shares what was done to achieve them in the company. At the end of the presentation, he will also present a future collaborative supply chain model that companies should strive for. You will leave the conference with ideas on what to change in your company's supply chain.
Robert is Head of Customer Relations for Ericsson's Logistics and New Industries unit. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from BI Norwegian Business School and has 12 years of work experience, the last 7 years in various Ericsson units around the world, including Latin America, the United States, Germany and Sweden.
Prior to joining Ericsson in March 2010, Robert spent two years as Head of the Logistics Procurement unit in the Global Procurement division of Nokia Siemens Networks. The unit had a total of 25 people working in different countries around the world. His main responsibilities in the unit were the development and implementation of sourcing strategies, the achievement of cost savings targets, collaboration with sourcing units and cross-functional stakeholders, development of global leadership skills and competencies of area managers, management of areas, sub-areas, products and services, definition of business performance metrics, setting and monitoring of targets, participation in relevant steering committees, etc. He was responsible for the development and implementation of a global procurement strategy.
2017. since April , Robert has been Head of Customer Relations for Ericsson's Internet of Things, Transport and Logistics units, participating in the development of the E2E or end-to-end network logistics programme covering all modes of transport and storage, purchasing and manufacturing. He has extensive experience in managing a multicultural team and in planning, building and operating international and domestic E2E supply chains. Prior to that, he was Strategy Development Manager for Ericsson's Industry and Society unit, focusing on the development of high-tech solutions for telecom companies, Ericsson's logistics value chain strategy and systems solutions, e.g. Internet of Things, cloud technology, process management, data security, digital logistics, supply chain management systems. 2010. in March 2008, Ericsson started as Head of Distribution Logistics, responsible for Ericsson's global warehouse and distribution programmes, leading a team of around 85 people managing a budget of approximately €400 million.

Marek Rozycki has served as Vice President of Amazon Logistics Europe, where he was responsible for last mile logistics in Europe.
however, Rozycki's main focus has been on start-ups, acquisitions and restructuring in the express delivery and logistics sector. He considers his most important achievement to be the creation of Masterlink Express, Poland's first domestic express company, and its development from a small business with five employees in 1990 to a profitable market leader in 1996. Today, the company bears the name DPD Polska and is Poland's leading express courier company with an annual turnover of $400 million.
Good goods with poor logistics will not survive in e-commerce. The e-commerce supply chain has gathered together to discuss what kind of logistics service e-commerce needs today and in the future, and what kind of service logistics companies can offer. Will solutions be found to the needs?
Around the world, the new trend is that workers no longer want to be owned by the company - they want shorter working hours, to work on a project basis, with different sectors and employers. Companies are finding it hard to accept that employees are no longer 100% committed to them alone. However, labour is now at a premium and employers need to adapt to new demands. Eela Velström, partner at Interrim Agency, offers solutions on how companies can meet their targets in the new environment.
Eela has been active in the field of human resources management since the mid-1990s. She graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Philosophy of St. Petersburg State University, holds a Diploma in International Relations from the Estonian School of Diplomacy and a Master of Business Administration from Tallinn University of Technology.

Kaarel Ots, head of the Tallinn Nasdaq stock exchange, talks about the lesser-known possibilities of the stock exchange, how capital markets and the national economy are linked. Kaarel Ots has worked in the financial sector for more than 15 years. From 2014 to 2016, he was head of the financial advisory department at Deloitte, a consulting firm.
Prior to that, he worked for 8 years in various positions at UniCredit Bank, including Deputy Head and Head of Corporate Banking.
Kaarel Ots has been a member of the board of FinanceEstonia, a cluster organisation representing companies in the Estonian financial sector, since 2012. He holds a Master's degree in Corporate and Investment Banking from the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Italy
